How to Measure Your Wall for Custom Wallpaper

Getting accurate measurements is the key to achieving a flawless wallpaper fit. But don’t worry, measuring your wall is easier than it sounds. We just need to know the width and height of the wall at its widest and tallest points. Check out our wallpaper measuring guide below for step-by-step instructions.

Quick Tips:

  • Measure width at the widest point
  • Measure height at the tallest point
  • Add 5-10cm extra for trimming
  • Note positions of obstacles
  • Double-check all measurements

How to take standard wall measurements

Start by measuring the width of your wall from the left side to the right side at the widest point. Now, measure the height from the top to the bottom of the wall. These measurements will help ensure your custom wallpaper fits perfectly.

How to measure walls with obstacles

For walls with doors, windows, radiators, or other features, we still need the full width and height of the wall. You can then measure each obstacle and its distance from the left or right edge. We will mark these details on your design proof to create a seamless fit.

How to measure sloped walls

For sloped walls, measure the widest and tallest parts of the wall. We will provide the wallpaper as a rectangular shape, and the sloped area can be trimmed away during installation. Including precise dimensions ensures the best results for your custom wallpaper.

Measuring corner walls for wallpaper

Measure both walls and add the widths together. Measure the height at different points of the walls in case they are not perfectly straight, and use the largest height measurement. We will provide the wallpaper as one continuous mural to ensure the design flows perfectly across the corner.

Other Tips for Getting the Perfect Fit

Allow for extra trimming

We will print your wallpaper to the exact size specified. However, we recommend adding 5-10 cm (2-4 inches) to both the height and width of your measurements. This margin allows for minor misalignments or uneven walls during installation, making the process smoother.

Double-check your measurements

Accurate dimensions are crucial for a flawless look. Double-check all your measurements before submitting them to us. If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to contact our team for personalised advice.

Common measuring challenges

Even though we try to keep things as simple as possible, here are some common challenges that you might come across:

  • Uneven walls: Measure at several points and use the largest measurement
  • Skirting boards: Measure from above the skirting board to below the coving
  • Built-in furniture: Decide whether to measure behind or around it
